The Sierra Nevada is the smallest major mountain range in northern America at only 400 miles long, but it is home to the largest trees, the giant sequoias. It is part of a chain of multiple mountain ranges called the American Cordillera, which goes across the west coast of both American continents. The highest point in the range is Mount Whitney at 14,505 feet.
