The Appalachian Mountains is an ancient mountain range which extends over 2000 miles from Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada to Alabama in the United States. Climate can vary from arctic conditions in northern regions to more temprate in southern and lower elevations. It used to be at the same heights as the Alps and the Rockies, but it has shrunk due to natrual erosion. The tallest mountain in the range is Mount Mitchell at 6,684 feet.
